Italian cinema returns to Kurdistan with the ITALIAN FILM REVIEW, a special festival running over five consecutive days from November 11th to 16th, featuring a special preview program for the audience in Sulaymaniyah of 5 different contemporary Italian films, which we were keen to subtitle in Kurdish to reach a wider audience. The film selection was curated by the Amna Suraka Museum in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Kurdistan.
Overall, the five films on the program reflect the variety and vitality of contemporary Italian cinema, ranging from comedy to drama and stories about human relationships: from the resilience of a woman facing the expectations of family and society, to stories of friendship, creativity, and female solidarity.
In his statement, Consul General Tommaso Sansone emphasized that “bringing Italian cinema to Kurdish audiences is an important part of our cultural commitment; it provides a wonderful opportunity to share contemporary Italian stories through the universal language of cinema. The selection we are presenting reflects the diversity and vitality of current Italian cinema, ranging from stories rooted in family and community to films that explore social change, identity, and human relationships.”
The Consul General then added: “We are delighted to bring ITALIAN FILM REVIEW to Sulaymaniyah for its inaugural edition. Designed to promote and further strengthen the international presence of Italy’s dynamic audiovisual industry, the initiative offers a valuable opportunity for artistic and professional exchange, encouraging new collaborations and introducing international audiences to the richness, diversity, and creativity of contemporary Italian storytelling.”
