The Cambridge International School of Erbil, Kurdistan, eagerly joined the invitation from the Consulate General of Italy to take part in the “Sail of Peace” project, in collaboration with Scholas Occurrentes, to highlight the educational and social role of sports and to symbolically involve young Kurds and local communities in the preparation for the America’s Cup, which will be held in Naples in 2027. The initiative is part of the projects and sports diplomacy activities organized for the Third Edition of the Italian Sports Day around the world, strongly supported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani.
The Cambridge International School of Erbil made a white cotton T-shirt on which – according to the organizers’ request – a short message of peace was written in Kurdish: “Young Kurds send a message of peace to the whole world” and the country of origin is also clearly highlighted.
The Kurdistan t-shirt will be personally delivered to the organizers in Italy by Consul General Tommaso Sansone.
The fabrics from the t-shirt will be used to create a large ‘The Sail of Peace,’ which will be put together with the help of seamstresses from the Neapolitan Scampia neighborhood and later displayed in Naples as part of the events connected to the America’s Cup Naples 2027, the main international sailing event, which will be held in Italy for the first time.
The Sail of Peace aims to represent, through the coming together of messages from different countries, languages, and cultures, the values of dialogue, inclusion, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence that are part of sports and sports diplomacy.
