ERBIL, CONSUL CAMEROTA AWARDS ITALIAN CUISINE MASTER CLASS DIPLOMAS

On the afternoon of May 29, Consul Michele Camerota awarded the certificates of attendance at the first Italian cooking course held in Erbil, organized by the Italian Consulate in collaboration with the renowned Italian restaurant Don Gennaro and held by chef Angelo Giannino. The course, structured in specific modules on the arts of bread-making, pastry-making, the preparation of sauces for first courses and various condiments, involved 30 students, in two distinct groups, from the Tourism Department of the Salahaddin University of Erbil, the historic and first public of the regional capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, which in the past has also hosted initiatives on Italian design proposed by the Consulate itself. Satisfaction with the initiative was expressed by the Kurdish regional authorities, who are focusing on the development of cultural tourism in the Region, also investing in the training of skills and professions capable of providing adequate services. Furthermore, last year, regional authorities passed a law requiring businesses to employ at least 75% local labor, which requires extensive efforts in training programs.

During the certificate delivery ceremony, animated by an aperitif offered by Alessandro Casillo, owner of Italian Delicacies, who also manages the Don Gennaro restaurant, Consul Camerota expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm with which the initiative was welcomed by the young students who participated and also highlighted that it completed the activities promoted by the Consulate on the occasion of the last three editions of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the world, also celebrated in Iraqi Kurdistan. The strong interest found in the local population and the Kurdish authorities has been the driving force for other similar initiatives being defined, aimed at training professionals who can also act as promoters of the excellence and flavors of Made in Italy.
