After Erbil, Italian cuisine reaches the tables of the second city of Iraqi Kurdistan: Sulaymaniyah.
This is where the activities organized by the Italian Consulate take place as part of the 7th edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Consul Michele Camerota hosted a gala event at the ‘Balsamico’ restaurant in Sulaymaniyah, known for its openness and cultural vibrancy,” reads a statement.
“Over 130 people, including authorities, entrepreneurs and compatriots, were able to taste typical dishes of our gastronomic tradition prepared with abundance by Chef Angelo Giannino,” said Consul Camerota.
Camerota himself said: “The governor of Sulaymaniyah, Haval Abubaker, expressed words of jubilation for the initiative, which demonstrates the attention that the Italian diplomatic representation attributes to the entire region” of Kurdistan.
“Abubaker emphasized the excellent and growing relations with Italy, from the defense sector to development and health cooperation, archaeology, and in the commercial and cultural fields.”
“Consul Camerota, in addition to highlighting the main axes of this edition of the exhibition, including the benefits of the Mediterranean diet and the candidacy of Italian cuisine as a UNESCO intangible heritage, wanted to confirm the balance of activities throughout the Kurdish region in the face of a strong and indistinct demand for Italy”.
