UPDATE ON THE ENTRY RULES IN ITALY FOLLOWING THE PUBLICATION OF THE ORDER OF THE MINISTER OF HEALTH OF 14 JULY 2020

 

The current measures implemented in Italy to contain the spread of the virus, as well as the regulations included in the recent ordinances of the Minister of Health regarding Italian citizens traveling abroad and foreign citizens traveling to Italy, have been extended until 31 July 2020.

ITALIAN AND EUROPEAN UNION CITIZENS

From 1 July, Italian citizens residing abroad and their family members, regardless of their nationality, are allowed to enter Italy without a justified reason. Spouses, partners, children up to 21 years of age, cohabiting parents, other dependent family members for disability reasons, are all considered cohabiting family members.

From 1 July all citizens of the European Union, foreigners residing in a European Union country and their cohabiting family members of all nationalities are allowed to enter Italy without a justified reason.

From July 1, all restrictions on travel to Italy will be lifted with regard to the residents of the following Countries (unless they come from Countries travel from which to Italy is temporarily banned): Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay. In these cases the reasons for travelling will no longer have to be provided

From 9 July to 31 July entry to Italy is prohibited to any individual who, in the previous 14 days, has visited/stayed or transited in one of the following Countries: Armenia, Bahrein, Bangladesh, Brazil, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Chile, Kuwait, North Macedonia, Moldova, Oman, Panama, Perù, Dominican Republic. The only exemption to the entry ban applies to Italian citizens, EU citizens, citizens of a Schengen area country, citizens of the United Kingdom, Andorra, the Principality of Monaco, the Republic of San Marino or of the Vatican City State and their close relatives (cohabiting relatives, their spouses, partners of a civil union, and cohabiting partners provided that they had registered their residence in Italy prior to 9 July 2020).

 

Travel from Iraq is only allowed for family reunion, study or to return home or to one’s place of residence.

All other reasons for travelling shall continue to be prohibited.

Students wishing to enroll in an Italian university must complete the pre-enrollment registration on the website www.universitaly.it first, and obtain the online acceptance by the Italian Institution before applying for a study visa.

MANDATORY QUARANTINE

People travelling to Italy from all Countries other than EU Member States, Schengen Member States, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island, Andorra, Principality of Monaco, Republicof San Marino or Vatican City State will still be required to observe a 14-day quarantine period in self-isolation.
